Latinas of the New School: How Millenial Latinas Connect
What do you get when you combine some of today’s dopest millennial Latinas, a chic industrial loft-style space overlooking the Brooklyn waterfront, and sponsorships from some of the best brands in the business? You get the Latinas of the New School Dinner hosted by the founders of The Latina Connect.
Verky Arcos Baldonado (Editor-At-Large for Latina Magazine), Ericka Tapia (founder of Brooklyn Jewelgasm), and Qiana Aviles (Entrepreneur & TV Personality) are three of the most influential Latinas in the game. Together they have founded The Latina Connect, an endeavor designed to partner brands with the most coveted consumer of today, the millennial Latina. With a guest list that included some of the most successful female entrepreneurs and popular social media personalities and influencers, the Latinas of the New School Dinner was the first event of many more to come. I was lucky enough to have a seat at the table of this invitation only dinner.
When I arrived I was warmly greeted by Verky and Ericka. Both women were friendly and gracious and though I had never met Verky before and only knew Ericka because of our Instagram connection, they made me feel like we were old friends. This was true for every woman I met that night as well. I knew no one upon arriving, except for Qiana who is a high school friend. By the time the night was over all the ladies were laughing it up, dancing, and snapchatting. It felt like a high school reunion.
The night’s soundtrack included everything from 90s freestyle to Salsa and Reggaeton, to today’s most popular Hip-Hop and R&B. The music vibrated off the walls and we were indeed All the Way Up as we snapped selfies with our TyLite Official phone cases (one of the highlights of my night by the way). From the Belaire Rosé Champagne we sipped on to the delicious meal served by Fig & Olive everything was absolutely perfect.
I’ve attended many events, but none like this one. It was the first event I’ve attended that celebrated the beauty and diversity that exists amongst Latinas. We are smart, passionate, witty, sassy, driven, focused, determined and the list can go on and on. We hail from all over the globe and although we are all very different the one thing that connects us is the fact we are all Latinas. The Latina Connect is by us for us, and that is what sets them apart from the rest. I congratulate Verky, Ericka, and Qiana on their new endeavor and thank them for building this bridge to connect Latinas.
